"I just opened the fine-art print. It's fantastic! I really didn't have an appreciation for the small details around the drop zone signal fire, packages and soldiers being dropped. A first class job! Also a big thanks for your keeping me informed of the progress and the two posters."
"Sir, you are a messenger who communicates with paint. LONE WOLF remains an excellent representation of the moment, to such a degree that it truly caught my eye. It makes people look, wonder and hopefully explore. The message is the whole canvas, not the tiny details."

"Thanks so much for checking to make sure the print arrived. UPS delivered it on Thursday morning and I took it in to be framed right away. I am really pleased with the print and I know my son is really going to love it."
"I just wanted to let you know that I received "The High Road" poster and it is being framed. Thank you so much for signing it. I know Barry will love it. He is such a wonderful history teacher and has had a real passion for Canadian historical content especially in the two world wars. This is a wonderful parting gift for him. I can't thank you enough!

"The poster -signed by Rich- arrived today. Talk about speedy delivery! It's wonderful! The original must be really something! I know it's from the 1996 aircraft show, but I find it quite nostalgic. In the early 60's I used to fly over Ontario with a friend, in a small Cessna. It was really a lot of fun. Brings back good memories."
"As promised this is confirmation of the safe arrival of the poster. It is going to be framed with a small photo covering the text. It is a birthday present for our dear lady friend Lesley Martin, who flew the Cessna 180 floatplane commercially in Queensland, Australia some 15 years ago. Lesley, a former intensive-care nurse, is coming to Toronto as an invited guest speaker at the annual conference of Right To Die Societies to be held there in September. She has been jailed in New Zealand for her attempt to end the suffering of her terminally ill mother after publishing this experience in a book. She is quite a girl! You may hear about this in the news. It has been a pleasure to do business with you."

"The painting RHINO CHARGE shown on the cover is from the easel of noted Canadian artist, Rich Thistle. Working from charts, diagrams, pictures, models and innumerable exchanges with the author, he dramatically captured a historically significant instant of aerial combat with stunning accuracy....I will always be grateful to Rich Thistle for the tenacity, dedication and patience he showed in the creation of this painting which hangs proudly over my bar, and shall forever be a treasured possession."

"Thanks so much for your note. The print went over SO well. My father-in-law, Clare Redwood, was a tail-gunner in the 420th and my wife's mother said he never talked about it too much, except to me over the past few years. However, seeing this loosened his tongue a great deal! He loved it and said it was the best gift he could remember getting. He brought it up at every opportunity over the family gatherings in the next couple of days.
He has gone years without making an effort to get together with his old crew, and on the 27th he phoned some of them and has already arranged to meet. One of them has died and the excuse for ignoring a reunion in the past was that the pilots felt that since one couldn't come, they shouldn't get together. It seems Clare decided to disagree with that and began to make a few phone calls.
So needless to say, the print was a big hit. I thank you and Rich again for making a special effort to help me out with everything. I think it made an old veteran very happy and proud."
"Unlike my luggage from DC, the painting has arrived and I'm thrilled! Can't believe Rich painted it in 1993. It will look great in our new house and reminds me of home. I come from near Seaford and used to play golf regularly from roughly where the picture is taken from. Incidentally, we also stopped at Tangmere on my birthday last year. Great, great, great! And thanks for your help."
"My full compliments! Awesome work! Superb use of colour - and a great web site. What a breath of fresh air and Canadian to boot! Enough of your precious time."
"I am the author of THE TUNNEL KING; THE TRUE STORY OF WALLY FLOODY AND THE GREAT ESCAPE. I have just received a single advance copy of the book. It will be generally available at the end of the month. I had asked especially for Mr. Thistle's painting IN THE BALANCE, for the cover and was absolutely thrilled to hear that he had granted permission to my publisher. Now that I have seen the cover, I am more than ever convinced that there couldn't be a better image for the front of the book. I wanted to pass on my thanks personally, and say again how much I admire that painting and Mr. Thistle's other military art."
"The print arrived today! It's superb! Truly beautiful! I really love that one. Same feeling as when I first saw the original in Stratford. I am soooo happy! There is a nice framing shop here on base (at US Air Force bases, you can get almost anything, for a better price than downtown), and I'm going there tomorrow.
Thanks for the kind words. I am fortunate to know both of you personally, and am happy that we keep in touch. It also adds an extra sentimental value to my prints, representing a highlight in my career, captured by a wonderful artist that I know. It does not get any better! "

Snowbird #8 (1999-2000)
"The 30th Snowbird Anniversary is already two weeks old and the Team is busy with the winter work-ups in preparation for next year's show season. By all accounts, the 30th was a resounding success. Old friendships were rekindled, new ones were forged and it was an outstanding way for us to close out our 30th season.
Rich and Jay, your support for the Snowbirds has been absolute from the beginning. The letter writing campaign you undertook, allowing us to use your creativity and talent in the creation of FLYING THE FLAG and giving us carte blanche in the use of that image really gave us flexibility in planning the 30th Anniversary weekend. Without your loyal and dedicated support, the weekend would not have been the success it was.
It was truly an honour to have you both at the reunion and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. I extend to you both my heartfelt gratitude and thanks for exceptional dedication and generosity. The Snowbirds are fortunate to have you, Rich and Jay, as true friends."

"Just a note to let you know how thrilled I am to be the owner of your watercolor, DOUBLE DIAMOND RADICAL TWINS. I thought you might like to know that your painting is hanging in a home that appreciates fine art. My late father, James Penman Rae, was an artist and writer. Although never able to support his large family through his artistic talents, he left his eight children a legacy of beautiful paintings and writings (poetry and prose) and an appreciation of the sacrifice, dedication and talent that is embodied in each work of art.
Your painting of the Snowbirds is treasured by our family. Thank you for creating this beautiful piece of Canadian art!"
"I was pleased to read in the Beacon Herald that you have completed your artwork on the facade of Stratford Place, entitled THE HEART OF STRATFORD.
Residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy your magnificent paintings of Stratford for years to come. These pieces act as a time capsule to preserve the present image of Stratford while recapturing the city's history. Your contribution to enhancing the beauty of downtown Stratford through your artistry is a commendable achievement.
Congratulations on the completion of this project and best wishes for continued success."
John Richardson, M.P.
"I finally had time today to visit your virtual exhibition THE HEART OF STRATORD. What a magnificent presentation! You must be very proud of your accomplishment. I am sure that the developer and the people of Stratford, including visitors, will enjoy your work for years to come. Congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment."
"I got your DREAM MACHINE print of the Avro Arrow for my birthday. It has been framed to give it the honour it needs. Thank you Rich for the added words ... just what I needed. It is sometimes difficult to keep the correct frame of mind when you are in a strange country with a definite change in thinking. With your print I share the Canadian perspective with those who visit our home in Virginia now. We have even found another Canadian couple to compare notes with.
Once again, THANK YOU for your great print and the excellent service you gave my wife, especially the speedy handling of replacement of the print due to shipping damage."
